Around 6:15 p.m., the man was at a bus stop just north of the San Jose Blvd. and Hartley Road intersection and decided to cross the street when the traffic light was red. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the light turned green as the man walked into traffic. He was not using a crosswalk, JSO said. The outside and middle lanes noticed the man and stopped, but a driver in the inside lane, which also had the green light, did not see the man in the roadway because of a blocked view.
Police did not believe charges would be filed as multiple witnesses saw what happened. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. The crash caused significant delays and backups on the roadways, but the roads were reopened by 8:30 p.m.
