A 51-year-old man was fatally struck by a white SUV in Hayward, California on Tuesday morning. The driver fled the scene, and police are asking for the public's help in identifying the vehicle and driver. This marks the city's first fatal traffic collision of the year.
HAYWARD — A 51-year-old man crossing a street Tuesday morning suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by an SUV that failed to remain at the scene, police said. The man’s name was not immediately released pending notification of his family. Police said he was a Hayward resident. The collision happened about 6:56 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and Sueirro Street, an area with a mixture of homes and businesses.
Witnesses found the man in a center median and called police. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. Witnesses described the vehicle as a white, medium-sized SUV that was last seen traveling southbound on Hesperian Boulevard from Sueirro Street. Police are continuing their investigation.
