Oakland police area seeking the driver of a Hyundai Elantra that did not stop Wednesday evening after hitting a pedestrian, leaving him with critical injuries.

OAKLAND — A 59-year-old pedestrian was in critical condition Thursday after he suffered major head and other injuries when he was struck by a car that did not stop Wednesday evening near the Uptown district, authorities said.

According to initial police reports, the man, a Concord resident, was crossing the street when he was struck by a car that was going westbound on 23rd Street. The car, described as a silver Hyundai Elantra, continued on without stopping and was last seen going northbound on Valley Street, authorities said. A detailed description of the driver was not released. The man suffered a fractured skull, a broken leg and other injuries and was transported to a hospital, authorities said.
