Pearland's fast start paves way to win over North Shore

Battered inside by North Shore’s sagging defense, Pearland’s 6-3 senior post RyLee Graves managed just three points in the first half of a key Class 6A area girls basketball playoff game Friday night at Memorial High School.Well-versed in how to counterattack North Shore’s defensive game plan, Pearland rode the hot hand of junior La’Niah Thornton and a smothering half-court defense to take a 56-31 victory.

The Lady Oilers scored the game’s first seven points, led 15-4 after one quarter, and were in control start-to-finish in securing their 12th consecutive victory. Thornton wasted no time giving Pearland the lead for good, swishing in a 3-pointer just 20 seconds into the contest. North Shore’s first points didn’t come until the four-minute mark on a basket by junior guard Simran Williams.
