Paxton criticized those who voted to impeach him two years ago, aiming to install his allies in power. He argued that if the speakership is dominated by Democrats, it hinders Republicans from achieving their legislative goals. Paxton spoke at the Tarrant County Republican Party headquarters in Fort Worth, joined by fellow conservative lawmakers.
He urged attendees to contact their state representatives and advocate for Cook's candidacy before the legislative session starts next Tuesday. Paxton's tour precedes the legislative session where the leadership of the House remains uncertain. Paxton has been actively trying to remove current Speaker Dade Phelan for his support of Paxton's impeachment. Phelan narrowly won his primary last year and subsequently withdrew from the speaker race when it became evident he lacked sufficient support
