Listening to our political and social rhetoric, where is our great light,' Ben Huelskamp writes. Our disagreements have become the stuff of nightmares.
A lie swirled for too long that schools were offering litter boxes in restrooms. And in the face of already significant discrimination, transgender women have been accused of using their identity to invade women’s bathrooms and locker rooms, as if those weren’t already some of the most dangerous spaces for them.
I’m an idealist, but I’m not so naïve to believe that when January 1, 2023, arrives we will suddenly and magically begin working with our ideological and theological opponents. No, we will still have our ideas and our deeply held convictions for which we will fight and agitate. However, I’m calling for a moral revival in our language and rhetoric. “For every boot that tramped in battle, every cloak rolled in blood, will be burned as fuel for fire ."
I’m particularly calling on those of us who are faith leaders to burn the worst of our rhetoric as fuel to power more faithful and humanity-forward conversations whether we agree or disagree.
