A partnership between Valparaiso University’s College of Nursing & Health Professions and University of Chicago Medicine will allow VU students priority placement in a wide variety of hands-on learning opportunities at UChicago Medicine’s new 130,000-square-foot micro hospital when it opens in Crown Point in the spring.

The facility will include an eight-bed emergency department, short-stay inpatient unit, imaging department, outpatient surgery, laboratory service, medical offices, and a cancer center with infusion therapy, as well as radiation, medical, and surgical oncology, according to a release from VU. The partnership was announced Tuesday and will give VU students the opportunity for clinicals, practicums, internships, fieldwork, and other experiential learning offered at the multispecialty care center.

Those studying nursing, physician assistance, occupational therapy, public health administration, health care leadership and administration, health science, and exercise science will have the opportunity to complete experiential learning requirements alongside UChicago Medicine staff. Others in health sciences, health care leadership, and health care administration will have the opportunity to work in supervised administrative roles.
