The delays come as a partial federal government shutdown continues to impact key agencies responsible for airport security.on Friday calling for TSA workers to be paid, have resulted in some backpay being issued on Monday, the effects of the shutdown have already taken a toll. Some TSA employees report that partial back pay has begun to process, though full compensation has not yet been completed. Even with payments resuming, officials and workers alike say it will take time for the workforce to stabilize. According to TSA officials, hundreds of airport employees have resigned, and thousands more have called out of work in recent weeks. Many workers have struggled to cover basic living expenses, including food, housing, childcare, and transportation. The staffing shortages come at a particularly challenging time, as spring break travel ramps up nationwide. “It’s still going to take a little time for everybody to revamp their finances and get back up in order,” Johnny Jones, Secretary-Treasurer of the Union representing TSA workers told CNN, noting that financial strain and logistical challenges including childcare and accumulated debts, continue to affect employees. To ease congestion, the federal government has deployed additional personnel, including agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement , to assist at airports. These have been helping with tasks such as ID verification, monitoring entrances and exits, and managing crowds. Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over how long the shutdown will continue.
