Parma school recently completed the addition of new Career & Technical Education classrooms at Normandy High School. PARMA , Ohio -- Nearly two years after Parma City Schools was awarded state funding, the district recently completed the expansion to its Career & Technical Education program at Normandy High School.

The $4,116,570 project features new state-of-the-art carpentry and auto collision classrooms/lab -- located near the rear of the Pleasant Valley Road building -- providing students with hands-on, reality-based training to be college and career-ready. “We added over 4,000 square feet of additional space to the two labs -- carpentry and auto collision,” Parma City School District Workforce Development Administrative Specialist Chuck Caldwell said. The timing of the grant award worked out perfectly regarding the recent district consolidation, which relocated the aforementioned career tech programs from Parma High School to Normandy High School. Caldwell said the last two years, space has been limited at the new location, but that’s no longer the case. “We were kind of stuck between 15 and 20 seats for the programs for juniors and seniors each year,” he said. “This will allow us to go up to 25 to 28 students in a class. “We currently have 90 in the programs, but next year I expect that number to get up to about 100 students. We’ve always had quite a bit of interest in both of those programs, but it’s more just that now we have the space to actually house them.” Parma City Schools is one of only a few districts in Ohio to offer an in-house Career Technical Education program at no additional cost to families, giving students the opportunity to join a learning community focused on advanced career technical training while staying within their home district. CTE offerings at Normandy High School include carpentry, auto collision, culinary, cosmetology, digital media, creative arts, medical, dental, networking, cyber-security, engineering and cooperative marketing management. “I would love to expand,” he said. “There are obviously things that play into that as far as funding and passing levies, but on my wish list would be adding a programming software, computer science kind of pathway, as well as like an HVAC, electrical and plumbing program. “Our trades programs are pretty popular. Those are the ones that you generally get the waitlists, so there’s certainly a need to potentially have more programs.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
