City Council last week appointed Angelo Russo to fill the vacant Ward 5 seat.
The 2019 mayoral hopeful previously held the Ward 5 seat after being appointed in 2014 and elected to office a year later. “Angelo was one of four people who applied for the open seat,” Fairview Park Council President Bridget King said.
“Since he has knowledge of how everything works, and we’re going through our budget process, it just seemed like an easy fit to have him finish the term because he knows the processes and there’s no learning curve.” Russo will serve the remainder of what is actually King’s Ward 5 term she left to become council president. In September, former City Council President Michael Kilbane resigned after creating national headlines for a social media comment about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Her win over Jeffrey J. Szemplak now means the Ward 5 seat will once again be vacant with the beginning of the next City Council term. “I’m going to keep the council president seat,” she said. “And in January, anyone who lives in Ward 5 for two years can apply to take over my four-year seat.King noted Russo told City Council he won’t be seeking the Ward 5 seat -- serving from January 2026 through December 2029 -- in the New Year.If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
