Sulamain Hawkins Sr. and Anastasia Weaver , both 19, pleaded not guilty Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, in Rochester City Court to second-degree manslaughter charges following the death of their 3-month-old son Sulamain Hawkins Jr., who was mauled to death by two dogs Aug. 3 on Bidwell Terrace. Rochester , N.Y. — The 19-year-old parents of a 3-month-old boy mauled to death by dogs on the city's northwest side earlier this month pleaded not guilty Thursday.
"I just saw the baby on the stretcher, and it just broke my heart," a neighbor said. "I didn't have a clue until later I saw animal control. I still didn't know what was going on. I was so confused."Police said the boy's parents went downstairs to smoke marijuana, leaving him alone on the attic floor with two "pit bull-type dogs."
Sulamain Hawkins Sr. and Anastasia Weaver stood before a judge Thursday in Rochester City Court and entered not-guilty pleas to felony second-degree manslaughter charges. "The condition, it stated in the accusatory, the conditions in the attic were deplorable," said Assistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck.
