A Palmyra Borough Council meeting was disrupted by the arrest of councilman Anthony Catalani II for DUI, igniting debate and concerns among council members. Catalani defended himself, while others condemned the public handling of the situation.
Palmyra Borough Council met for their final meeting of the year to address sitting councilman Anthony Catalani II's DUI arrest that has caused concerns within the council. The board was made aware of Catalani's Oct. 19 arrest, his second alcohol-related offense which prompted a group of members to voice their concerns. Catalani responded wishing they hadn't put him ' on blast, time and time again,' while feeling frustrated about the public discussion.
He also cited his arrest as a 'mistake' while recalling the anniversary of the death of his father. 'It’s supposed to be innocent before proven guilty, but it seems like we’re guilty right away,' said Mike Brown, 66-year-old, Palmyra local and cancer survivor.Another council member took to Facebook to address the public ordeal stating that an executive session should have been enacted for the board to discuss the matter privately.Catalini has a preliminary hearing scheduled for the DUI charges on Jan. 23, 2025, according to court documents
