A Palmyra borough council member is facing DUI charges after allegedly crashing his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. At a recent meeting, the council president questioned his judgment and asked if he would resign.
After a Palmyra borough council member was charged with DUI , council members addressed the charges at a recent meeting. Anthony Catalini II, 37, is facing two charges related to DUI and a third summary traffic charge after he allegedly crashed his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 19, according to an affidavit.
'Last week, borough council was made aware that we have a council member who has gotten a DUI, and in light of this being his second arrest for excessive drinking, this needs to be addressed,' said Borough Council President Beth Shearer at a. 'Anthony, your actions show a complete lack in judgement, and I would like to know if you plan on resigning from your position.' “No, I don't, and there's more to the story,” Catalini replied. “Would have been nice for you to talk to me about that with everything that transpired, but again, you continue to put me on blast time and time again. We're all human. We make mistakes. But at the same point, like, I'm here trying to fight and trying to do well for the residents... so it's very frustrating.' Charges filed by North Cornwall Township Police reveal that officers were called to a crash on Springwood Drive around 2:56 a.m. on Oct. 19. Catalini allegedly told officers that he had been out with friends at the Ash Cigar Lounge. After he left to drive home, he crashed into a curb.Charging documents report Catalini then called his mother to wait in her car for a tow to arrive, but he never called the police to report the accident. He allegedly admitted to having an alcoholic drink after officers noted he smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes.According to court documents, he was also charged with public drunkenness in May of 2023.
