KLANG: The upcoming Selangor state polls may present a few roadblocks for Pakatan Harapan given that it had lost three of its parliamentary seats in the state in the recent general election.
The big question currently was whether Pakatan would be able to retain its state assembly seats that fall under the three parliamentary constituencies.
Dr Xavier had, however, left PKR and was a Perikatan Nasional-friendly independent for a while before joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia . The state constituencies under Hulu Selangor were Kuala Kubu Baru, Hulu Bernam and Batang Kali whilst Sijangkang, Banting and Morib fell under the Kuala Langat parliamentary seat and Meru, Sementa and Selat Kelang came under Kapar.
"There was an increase in the number of Malay voters in the recent election which was mostly made up of the young first-time Undi-18 voters," said Leow. Former Kapar MP Abdullah Sani, who also lost out to PAS’ Dr Halimah Ali in the polls, concurred and said most constituencies were engulfed by youths who wanted to see PAS gain power and momentum.Meanwhile, Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir said the outlook for his party in the upcoming state election was very promising."We stand a good chance of winning the state assembly seats in these areas," said Roslan.
