Padres catcher Luis Campusano hitless in last five games as he looks to put a dreadful May behind him
The Padres are in Kansas City to begin the last day of a calendar month in which they’ve gone 15-11. May, however, has not been kind to everyone. Take, for instance, Luis Campusano. The 25-year-old catcher went from a productive first month of the season to hitting .174/.250/.304 in 76 plate appearances this month. That includes going hitless in his last five games and hitting .109/.196/.174 over his last 15 games.
Campusano will hit eighth on Friday to start a three-game series at Kansas City. Outside of former Padres right-hander Michael Wacha getting the start, the Royals’ first lineup of the weekend includes old friends Hunter Renfroe and Adam Frazier : Padres RHP Dylan Cease He has a 6.61 ERA over his last three starts, striking out 22 against four walks and allowing a .314/.347/.514 batting line over 16⅓ innings.
