Luis Arraez riding 25-game on-base streak as Padres start three-game series at the Cincinnati Reds
A day after exiting Monday’s lineup with a shoulder injury, Xander Bogaerts is out of the lineup on Tuesday as the Padres start a three-game series in Cincinnati. That does not necessarily mean Bogaerts is headed to the injured list. His shoulder is sore, but the thinking is that Bogaerts avoided a dislocation, allowing the team to at least wait another day before making a decision on whether he’ll land on the injured list.
With Arraez in the field and Bogaerts out, Solano will serve as the designated hitter and Manny Machado will play third base and return to the clean-up spot. Machado was 5-for-15 with two doubles and three RBIs the last four games in the five-hole. Jurickson Profar, however, remains in three-spot and Jake Cronenworth will bat fifth. Before the game, the Reds recalled outfielder Nick Martini and optioned outfielder Conner Capel to Triple-A Louisville.
