Juan Soto, who shined with Nationals in 2019, can redefine his first season with Padres with big postseason; Snell set for Game 2

Juan Soto’s impact on the field since joining the Padres has not been quite what was expected.

“I’m all right,” Soto said after chuckling at the mention of his success at the ballpark in which he played 30 games as a member of the Nationals, who are in the NL East with the Mets. Snell faced the Mets twice this season, allowing them five runs in four innings on June 6 at Petco Park and shutting them out for five innings on July 23 at Citi Field.

The Mets have not announced their Game 2 starter. It is believed it will be Chris Bassitt if the Mets win Game 1, so they have the possibility of having Jacob deGrom start the NLDS if they sweep the Padres. If the Mets lose Game 1, it is expected to be deGrom in Game 2.If right-hander Mike Clevinger is feeling well enough — and it is expected he will be — it seems almost certain he will be the final pitcher on the Padres’ roster.
