Manny Machado is back to thriving at the polate and being the Padres’ everyday third baseman

After offseason elbow surgery forced Machado to begin the season as the Padres’ designated hitter, he began playing third base in late April but had not played more than six straight games there until this run. Machado made one of the most crucial plays of Thursday’s game, charging to grab a slow roller hit by Isiah Kiner-Falefa and executing the quick transfer and throw just in time to prevent the tying run from scoring and end the sixth inning.
