Teams' third-ranked pitching prospect will make big-league debut Tuesday against Angels; Luis Arraez gets at least another after hurting shoulder Sunday
Adam Mazur, the Padres’ third-ranked pitching prospect, jumped quickly from Double-A to Triple-A this season. The reports from those who watched him in person, which included Padres President of Baseball Operations A.J. Preller, was that he pitched well virtually every time out for Triple-A El Paso but paid for a couple mistake pitches each game. His ERA was 1.95 over 32⅓ innings in Double-A and 7.11 over 19 innings in Triple-A. The lesson for him was pretty simple.
Musgrove was placed on the IL Saturday, as well, with a recurrence of the triceps tendinitis that sidelined him for 20 days in May. Randy Vasquez allowed three runs over five innings and got his first win of the season in Musgrove's place Saturday against the Royals. Where Musgrove rested for just a few days before feeling resuming throwing last time, the Padres plan to shut him down entirely for at least two weeks. Assuming all goes well, he would then need a couple weeks to build back up.
