The Dodgers have won six in a row and the Padres have won nine of 13 heading into first series since Padres upset LA in last year's NLDS
Max Muncy pulled a ball over short wall in right field for a walk-off grand slam on Wednesday afternoon, kicking off a celebration at home plate at Chavez Ravine as the Dodgers capped a perfect homestand. The owners of four 100-plus-win seasons since 2017, the Dodgers’ six-game winning streak packs them off to Petco Park with 1½-game lead in a division they’ve won nine out of the last 10 years.
“It was a big win for the city,” Padres center fielder Trent Grisham said. “It was a big win for a lot of guys on this team, guys that have been here for a while. So to overcome that hurdle and beat them when it counts was great, but at the end of the day we have to do the exact same thing again.” Fernando Tatis Jr.’s return from his PED suspension has coincided with the Padres’ recent surge. Newcomer Xander Bogaerts has been hitting all along, Manny Machado is beginning to hit for more power, Juan Soto is beginning to hit the ball more often, Yu Darvish is beginning to settle in after the World Baseball Classic delayed the start to his season and Musgrove is back from the toe and then shoulder injuries that held him back earlier.
The Dodgers are also beginning to circle the wagons after losing Justin Turner, Trea Turner, Cody Bellinger and Tyler Anderson to free agency and Gavin Lux to a devastating knee injury this spring. All were significant contributors to team that outscored the Padres 109-47 in taking 14 of 19 in the regular season a year ago.
