Fans of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim have watched the franchise steadily expand since its debut. The 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, directed by Steven S. DeKnight, helped grow the fanbase, and now the story continues through a new release from Legendary Comics.
Titled Pacific Rim: Final Breach, the graphic novel is written by Joshua Hale Fialkov, with artwork by E.J. Su and colors by Rebecca Good. The story introduces a new wave of Kaiju assaults that once again threaten humanity’s survival. The graphic novel is set to arrive on May 5 for $19.99 and is currently available for pre-order wherever books are sold. Today, Collider can exclusively reveal a trailer for the new release. The original film’s central characters, Raleigh Becket and Mako , played a key role in establishing the series’ emotional core, and making fans fall in love with the franchise — and their legacy continues today. Final Breach explores the consequences of repeated attempts to access the Anteverse, revealing that those efforts have not always been successful. The story also brings Raleigh back into focus, as Jake Pentecost and Hermann Gottlieb attempt to find the famed Jaeger pilot, as he may be their last hope. "After years of failed attempts to enter the Anteverse, the trans-dimensional realm from which all Kaiju emerge, Jake Pentecost and Hermann Gottlieb conceive a daring last-ditch plan whose success hinges on finding legendary Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket—the only human being to ever survive behind enemy lines. Living in exile off the grid, Raleigh must choose assured annihilation or confront his past and team up with a new generation to pilot the brand-new Gipsy Destroyer, the last Jaeger standing. Tensions escalate and old wounds reopen as the PPDC finally crosses the breach to confront what lies on the other side… It’s time for humanity to meet its true enemy and cancel the apocalypse once and for all."
