Indiana Pacers' Myles Turner shoots as Houston Rockets' Jabari Smith Jr. defends during the first half of an NBA basketball game Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, in Houston. As the Rockets built out their largest lead of the season on Friday night, they did not look particularly like themselves, which was in this case a good thing.
What resulted was an eventual 99-91 loss to the Pacers. It was the Rockets’ largest blown lead since they blew a 16-point advantage in their second game of the season, a 129-122 loss to Memphis. Gordon led the Rockets with a season-high 24 points, but couldn’t sustain his torrid start through a chaotic second half. Center Alperen Sengun was the only one of his teammates to reach double figures after three quarters.
Fewer than two minutes remained in the third quarter when Indiana wrestled back a 68-66 lead, its first lead since 2-0. Houston could not muster the same effort. The Rockets began the fourth quarter trailing 71-70. A few possessions in, down by four, Gordon drove into the lane, ball faked toward the hoop and at the last second passed to Smith in the corner.
