An Indiana University of Pennsylvania police officer was involved in a shooting that took place on the campus Sunday night, according to reports.
The incident took place just before 9:40 p.m., when the university police officer responded to a reported robbery near George P. Miller Stadium. When the officer encountered a person in a parking lot who pulled out a knife and charged at him, according to“Following that encounter, the suspect fled on foot. The Indiana Borough Police Department and our troopers were dispatched to assist with a foot pursuit of the suspect,” Trooper Clifford Greenfield told. “One of our troopers was able to locate the suspect nearby, and with a successful Taser deployment, took the suspect into custody.
Police identified the person in custody as 19-year-old Cameron Raubaugh, who they say placed the 911 call to report a robbery, according to WJAC TV. Police say Raubaugh admitted to making the false 911 call because he was “depressed” and wanted to be killed by police, according to WJAC.According to IUP, when an officer fires a weapon, they are automatically placed on administrative leave.
