He pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and burglary in exchange for prosecutors dropping the death penalty.

Luzerne County Judge Tina Polachek Gartley accepted the plea and immediately imposed the 25-60 year sentence the parties agreed upon in the plea deal, saying there was nothing she could do to ease the family’s “devastating pain.”Afterward, Price’s daughter Carol Belmont said the family was satisfied.
Belmont and her husband, Richard, found Price dead the morning of Nov. 29, 2013, her battered body motionless in her bed and her home ransacked. Authorities also recovered DNA from Spudis’ then-girlfriend at the scene of the crime, including on a knife, the screwdriver and a white shelled necklace found next to Price’s bed. She was never charged, and Zola would not comment Friday on the extend of her involvement in the crime.
