A South Williamsport man was found guilty in 2023 of multiple counts of sexual abuse of children.

Published: Jan. 28, 2026, 4:44 p.m.WILLIAMSPORT — A Lycoming County man again has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years in state prison in a child pornography case. County Judge Ryan M. Tira on Tuesday imposed the same sentence on Christopher Fraunfelter, 37, of South Williamsport, as he had after a jury in 2023 found him guilty on 40 counts of sexual abuse of children and 20 counts each of dissemination and possession of child pornography.

in November reversed Fraunfelter’s conviction on seven counts of distribution of child pornography and vacated his state prison sentence. Two of the three panel members found the evidence against Fraunfelter was overwhelming. Still, they reversed the conviction on seven of the distribution counts because he had sent the pornographic images only to himself. Fraunfelter, in his appeal, argued that sending the child sexual abuse images to himself was not dissemination. The panel’s majority further found no evidence had been presented that the defendant possessed the images in those counts for distribution.Such a rating requires that it be the individual’s first such offense and proof that the image depicts a child under the age of 10 or prepubescent. The panel found that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence of prepubescence or that the images depicted someone under the age of 10. Superior Court Judge Mary Jane Bowes, in a separate opinion, agreed with her colleagues that resentencing was needed because of faulty grading of some of the counts, but disagreed on reversing the conviction on the seven counts. Tira’s new sentence was on counts different from the first one. He rejected the argument of Chief Public Defender Nicole J. Spring that the dissemination and possession counts should merge for sentencing purposes. Williamsport native John Beauge obtained a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State and a master’s from Northwestern University. He was photo editor of the Daily Collegian his senior year at Penn State....
