Claire outside cleaning blood from her tent in Outlander

Right out of the gate, Outlander: Blood of My Blood has completely shifted our understanding of Claire's story. Of course, this is precisely what we want from a prequel series. The whole point is a change in perspective, adding in context for past events that retroactively adjust the central story.

Blood of My Blood got the ball rolling in this regard before its first episode even premiered. Now, it's taking it further. Prior to the premiere of Outlander: Blood of My Blood's first two episodes, the trailers for the spinoff revealed that Claire's parents, Henry and Julia Beauchamp, didn't die in a car crash after all. Instead, they accidentally traveled through time, just as Claire did decades later. This is a pretty big deal, since the door is now wide open for these characters' stories. One of the disadvantages of a prequel series is that, generally, audiences already know how things will end. Outlander: Blood of My Blood found a creative way to draw us back in, however, since we suddenly have no idea what will happen to Henry and Julia Beauchamp. Now, the spinoff series' very first episode has taken this further with an additional twist that changes how we understand Claire's story. Outlander: Blood Of My Blood's First Episode Reveals That Julia Is Pregnant We didn't see much of Henry and Julia in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 1. We caught a glimpse of Julia at Castle Leathers in the service of Lord Lovat, and Henry was seen among the Grants at the Castle Leoch gathering, but we initially had no idea how they got there. The ending of Blood of My Blood's first episode jumped back in time to spell the whole thing out—and drop another surprise. While on their car trip in Scotland, Julia and Henry discussed the fact that they are expecting a baby. They note that little Claire, who is only a few years old at this point, has no idea that she will have a little brother or sister soon. They plan to share the news when they return from their trip. Of course, they won't get a chance, since their car crashes, leading to their jump through time.In Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 2, Julia doesn't mention her pregnancy. She's trapped at Castle Leathers, where she is in constant danger of sexual assault from Lord Lovat. Getting back to Henry and Claire is Julia's first priority, and even though she doesn't mention it, the pregnancy contributes further to the urgency. This baby will be born eventually, but where ? A Sibling For Claire Completely Changes The Context Of Claire's Outlander Story Outlander established years ago that Claire grew up without her parents. She was raised by her Uncle Lamb and believed all her life that Henry and Julia died in a car crash. Outlander: Blood of My Blood's big reveal that the Beauchamps lived, as well as Julia's desperation to get back to her daughter, is terribly tragic, since we know she won't succeed. If this wasn't enough of a shift, Julia's pregnancy takes things even further. Claire was already separated from Jamie for decades because she believed he was dead. Outlander season 7 has suggested that she was also tragically separated from her daughter, Faith, who was thought to be dead. Now, Blood of My Blood reveals that Claire was not only separated from her parents, but also from a sibling. Currently, we have no idea whether Claire's younger brother or sister was ever actually born. However, if they were, it looks likely that they came into the world in the 18th century. For all we know, this sibling is even someone we have already met in Outlander. In essence, everything Claire thought she knew was wrong. She was never without a family, and relatives could very well have been all around her, especially in the past. Could Henry & Julia's Second Child Still Be Alive In Outlander? It will be interesting to see if Outlander: Blood of My Blood's big twists will be addressed in Outlander season 8. It would truly be tragic if Claire never learned that her parents had survived their car crash or that she might have had a younger sibling. The unfortunate truth is that she will likely never see Henry and Julia again. If they had stayed in the past, they would be in their 80s during the Revolutionary War. Even if Henry and Julia didn't manage to live to ripe old ages in the 18th century, however, their second child may still have been around in the 1770s. As previously mentioned, we might have already met them—something that Blood of My Blood will likely confirm or disprove. Once this comes to the surface in the prequel, Outlander could run the ball the rest of the way. With any luck, Outlander: Blood of My Blood's significant change will lead to a heartwarming family reunion. The finale of Outlander season 7 implies that Claire will go looking for information about her daughter, Faith, in the upcoming final season. This could lead to a discovery about the true fate of the Beauchamps, which could then expand to Claire's long-lost sibling. Of course, only time will tell. With any luck, Outlander: Blood of My Blood's significant change will lead to a heartwarming family reunion.
