Alyssa Flores delivered a game-winning homer and Cassie Valdez earned another win in the circle to move the Saints to the brink of an NAIA title.
Alyssa Flores hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting Our Lady of the Lake to a spot in the NAIA World Series championship game with a 4-3 win against University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Tuesday in Columbus , Ga. The No. 1-ranked Saints will play for the program’s first NAIA national championship at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The Drovers were the first team to score a run against the Saints at the World Series, as Valdez posted shutouts in 3-0 wins over both Oregon Tech and Madonna, combining for 14 innings pitched allowing six hits and seven walks with 18 strikeouts. Science and Arts took advantage of a fielding error to plate two runs on three hits in the second inning, but Grace Ross answered with a solo homer for the Saints in the bottom half of the frame to make the score 2-1.
