Orlando Pirates star Thabiso Monyane is buzzing at the prospect of playing alongside new signing Gilberto.reports that Pirates right-back Thabiso Monyane knows what the club needs to do in order to cast off their reputation as also-rans in the title race. The Buccaneers have finished as runners-up in the last two league campaigns. The 24-year-old has also recently signed a new contract with the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup champions.
“We’re looking forward to starting the season on a high note and the rest will take care of itself. We know what we’re capable of. We know that we can finish the season strong, which is something that we’ve proved , so we’re looking forward to being consistent throughout the season. We know that sometimes we don’t have to play beautiful football as long as we grind out the results,” said Monyane before revealing their lofty new ambitions.
“We also know that for the past few seasons we haven’t started the season as good as we wanted to, so we’ll be looking to rectify that. We want to start this season well. We also want to retain our titles – the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup. We also want to add one more title and make it a treble. Those are our ambitions; those are our goals for this season.
Monyane is also eyeing out progress in the Caf Champions League. The Sea Robbers didn’t make it past the second round last term, eliminated by Botswanan side Jwaneng Galaxy. He’s also got huge hopes for new signings,“Obviously we don’t want to repeat the mistake we made last season when we bowed out of the Champions League very early. This time we want to go all the way.”
“Gilberto is quite an exciting player, very skilful and very quick. All I can say to the Buccaneers is that it’s going to be an exciting season.”Will Pirates push Sundowns all the way in next season’s title race?Orlando Pirates finished the 2023-2024 DStv Premiership campaign in second place, earning a spot in the 2024-2025 Caf Champions League. Jose Riveiro’s team also won two major honours, beating Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 finals.
