We chat with Orlando Bloom about CarnivalRow season 2, whether he would want to reprise the role of Rycroft Philostrate, and what advice PiratesoftheCaribbean's Will Turner would have for Philo:
Orlando Bloom returns as Rycroft "Philo" Philostrate in Carnival Row season 2, which is also the final season bringing Prime Video's epic steampunk fantasy series to its conclusion.
Orlando Bloom: Yeah, I think you've nailed it. I mean, honestly, what that does to the character's journey, looking at the shame and guilt and living with a lie. He was institutionalized. He was raised in an orphanage, he went to the army, went to the police in The Burgh, and he was institutionalized.
And what was sort of unique was that we were shut down for COVID just as we were finishing filming a storyline that involved a virus going through Carnival Row taking out of Fae. So it was like, "Wow, is this really happening?" And I think that was life mirroring art. And it was so true for the whole show. And I love that about it.
And ultimately, what I feel is an epic ending, and an honest ending, in a way that you just don't see in these kinds of big epic shows always. There's no pulling any punches. It's really true to life. It's really interesting and I love that about it. And the romance is there, and the love is there, and it's never not there, and I think that's true for people who have been together, love each other. They're there, they love each other.
Carnival Row season 2 wraps up this 18-hour story. But there are reboots and revivals happening all over the place. Would you come back as Philo if another opportunity came to do Carnival Row again?
