Brendan Fraser John Hannah and Oded Fehr holding weapons in The Mummy Returns
Oded Fehr offers a disappointing response regarding his return for The Mummy 4. Fehr played warrior Ardeth Bay in both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns , starring alongside Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in the Stephen Sommers adventure films.
In an interview with ScreenRant's John Orquiola for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Fehr confirms that he hasn't been contacted about reprising his role for the new Mummy movie. Though the actor expresses excitement about the project, he's in the dark about its current status. As Fehr explains: I gotta tell you, man, I'm so excited that you're excited. I have no idea. I haven't been contacted. I don't know anything about it. I know that the internet has been saying it as though it exists and it's a done deal, but haven't heard anything about it. So I'm hoping it happens. I'm hoping I get to be in it. But there's nothing I can tell you about it. When Orquiola stresses Ardeth's importance to the franchise, Fehr explains that The Mummy was a crucial project for him as an actor, and he would welcome an opportunity to reunite with his former costars: I agree. I hope so. I hope that happens. I can tell you that I love The Mummy. It's made me into working actor. I love the actors on it. I've gotten to see a few of them in the last couple of years, and I hope it happens, but I have not been contacted. The fourth installment was reported to be in development in November 2025, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, a duo known as Radio Silence, set to direct the project. Both Fraser and Weisz were said to be returning to lead The Mummy 4's cast, and Fraser hyped the project in an interview later that month. Though Fraser told the Associated Press that he's proud of 2008's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the upcoming fourth film is"the one I wanted to make." Fraser continues:"And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.” Development on The Mummy 4 follows a failed reboot in 2017 starring Tom Cruise, and it happens as a new film in the franchise approaches its release. Director Lee Cronin's The Mummy, a Blumhouse film, is set to hit theaters on April 17, and it's poised to be a standalone entry in the franchise with a more horror-forward approach. There's been no major news on the fourth installment since November, but John Hannah, who played Evelyn's brother, Jonathan, recently told RadioTimes that he hasn't been contacted about a return either, though he says it"would be fun to do." Dwayne Johnson, who played the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns, also recently told ET that he would consider returning if he was asked. Fraser plays French Foreign Legion soldier Rick O’Connell in the original film, battling a resurrected mummy alongside Weisz’s Evelyn, Fehr’s Ardeth, and Hannah's Jonathan. All four returned for the 2001 sequel, both only Fraser and Hannah returned for Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, with Maria Bello taking on the role of Evelyn. While story details for The Mummy 4 remain under wraps, any new installment could choose to sidestep the events of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and function instead as a direct sequel to the 2001 film. And if the franchise does move forward, one thing seems certain: Fehr would be more than willing to return as Ardeth, should the call come.
