Opinion: I took a chance buying Final Four tickets before the Aztecs beat Creighton. It paid off. [Opinion]
Did that really happen? Did we really win the game? Are we really going to the championship game? The answers to all those questions, yes, yes and yes. Fans were delirious. It was true joy unlike I had ever experienced before at a sporting event. As the moments passed and we walked through the concourse, the cheering continued as Aztecs fans reveled in the moment. Everything about it was perfect from the shot to the delirium.
Many of us stayed for the second game between Connecticut and Miami before returning to our hotels. But sleep? Forget about it. I spent the next few hours on social media watching the play over and over and fans reacting to the play over and over. But was I done? Not quite. The game was replayed on CBS Sports Network at 11:30 and of course I had to watch the entire game. Again. But this time I knew how it ended.
After a day off Sunday to gather our thoughts, we did it all over again on Monday for the NCAA Championship Game against UConn. Again the Aztecs fell behind in the second half and battled back, pulling within five points with about five minutes left. The fans were loud, really loud. Could we pull off another comeback? Sadly, no. There would be no national championship this year, but we Aztecs fans who traveled to Houston now know that we’ll be back. It’s just a matter of when.
