Trojans guard Reese Dixon-Waters, the Pac-12 sixth man of the year, attends Saturday celebration but is also being courted by UCLA and Texas
Keshad Johnson stepped to the microphone Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium for the celebration of his basketball team that included a red-carpet walk, autographs, pictures, highlight videos, the band, cheerleaders, fireworks, speeches, a key to the city from the mayor.
“I come from a football school,” Dixon-Waters said, “so it’s definitely interesting to see everybody at a football stadium for a basketball event. It’s been good. The coaches are nice people, good campus, good school, good program. The Aztecs will have competition. Dixon-Waters said he also has visited Pac-12 rival UCLA, and social media posts showed Texas coach Rodney Terry making a home visit last week.
Less debatable is the other end of the floor, known as one of the better perimeter defenders in the Pac-12 with his rangy, athletic frame. The Aztecs recruited him out of high school, so he already has familiarity with the coaching staff. There also is a serendipitous connection with St. Bernard High coach Tony Bland, who played and later coached at SDSU.
