The OnePlus 15T attempts to redefine the compact flagship phone by offering a large battery in a smaller form factor. While packing impressive specs and features, including a 7,500mAh battery and a high-end processor, the increased price point raises questions about its value proposition in a market with competitive alternatives like the Pixel 10.

Compact phones of the past often came with compromises. You got the convenience of one-handed use, but you typically had to accept a smaller battery, potentially worse thermal management, and other cutbacks that highlighted why flagship phones tended to increase in size. The OnePlus 15T aims to change this, differentiating itself by incorporating a substantial, tablet-sized battery within a phone featuring a 6.32-inch display.

This approach contrasts with similarly sized phones, such as Samsung's Galaxy S26, which often prioritize slimness over maximizing battery capacity. However, a significant caveat exists, stemming less from OnePlus's choices and more from the current trajectory of the smartphone industry. The OnePlus 15T boasts a 6.32-inch AMOLED display, a size friendly to one-handed operation, with a 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate that can reach up to 165Hz. Security is provided by an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. The front of the device utilizes Oppo's Crystal Shield Glass, while the phone itself measures 8.35mm thick and weighs 194 grams. This design makes it thinner and lighter than the Google Pixel 10, despite the larger battery. Inside, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra Pro RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. For an enhanced gaming experience, OnePlus has included a large 5150mm² vapor chamber and a G2 gaming network chip. The most noteworthy feature is the 7,500mAh Glacier Battery. This powerful battery supports 100W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and bypass charging. Compared to its predecessor, which did not include wireless charging, this is a significant improvement. OnePlus claims the battery provides up to 10.3 hours of MOBA gameplay or 40.5 hours of video streaming on a single full charge. The camera system includes a 50MP Sony main camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens providing a longer 3.5x optical zoom with OIS, supporting up to 8K video recording and 4K120fps Dolby Vision videos. The front camera houses a 16MP selfie camera. The OnePlus 15T also receives improvements in durability, earning IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings. This offers significant protection against water and dust. However, with all these enhancements, OnePlus is also facing some challenging realities. The OnePlus 15T launched in China with a starting price of 4,299 yuan, or roughly $624. For comparison, the OnePlus 13T launched at 3,399 yuan, equivalent to about $490 (or ~$446 back in 2025). This pricing reflects a noticeable increase, particularly when viewed within the Chinese market context. This doesn’t necessarily inspire confidence regarding the pricing of other phone launches scheduled for later in the year. A great phone can potentially be launched at the wrong time. This isn’t necessarily a sign of greed or ambition on the company's part; the broader smartphone market is experiencing cost pressures, in part due to rising memory costs. The OnePlus 15T offers a compelling product: a smaller form factor, a massive battery, and flagship-level hardware. However, its pricing position makes it seem less attractive compared to its predecessor. For example, the Pixel 10, has dropped below $600 with significant discounts. Therefore, OnePlus's position in competing with mainstream flagships has become more awkward
