Phoenix police say an officer is in critical condition and another is in stable condition after being shot Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to the area around 6:25 p.m. for reports of a person breaking into a vehicle near 16th Street and McDowell Road.When authorities arrived, the suspect took off running, officers began a foot pursuit. Where they 'were met by gunfire.' 'One officer was saved by his ballistic vest, the second is fighting for his life,' said Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan during a press conference. At approximately 9 p.m.

Tuesday, officials confirmed that a suspect was detained in connection to the shooting.“Our officers have been met by gunfire 11 times this year,” added Chief Sullivan.Police say there is no immediate threat to the community. Aerial footage showed multiple streets closed as officers searched the area for the suspect Tuesday evening. ABC15 crews spoke with a man who said he saw one officer performing CPR on another for several minutes. The identity of the suspect has not been released.
