Chloe talks to the one and only Victoria Beckham, a.k.a. Posh Spice, about what it’s like to be a singer turned designer. They also discuss the groundbreaking “Beckham” documentary, what’s on her workout playlist, and what she lets Harper borrow from her closet.
We all gasped when the gorgeous Miuccia Prada cover dropped earlier this week, and now we’re back with another legend: Victoria Beckham. Our episode yesterday kicked off a short series on the podcast highlighting women we want to wear now—an undertaking that feels particularly pertinent given all the men who have recently been tapped to lead legacy fashion houses.
Chloe sat down with Beckham to talk about her brand, her family, and, of course, her Spice Girls legacy. But Beckham also had some queries of her own, namely: “Did Anna vet these questions?” Beckham presented her eponymous label’s first collection in 2008: just 10 dresses, shown at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. At the time, her entrée into design as a major celebrity was met with some skepticism, but as Vogue Runway editor Nicole Phelps wrote in her review at the time, the dresses would “sell not on the power of her name but on the sophistication of their cut and fit.” Looking back, Beckham admitted that she’d been fairly naive about industry then, but she finally felt she had truly made her way when she debuted in Paris in 2022. But Chloe, a fan of the Beckham docuseries on Netflix last year, also had a lot of questions about Beckham’s family. First, she wanted to know if Victoria’s outfit-planning habits reflected David’s —and, perhaps unsurprisingly, they do. She also learned that the couple works out together, though Victoria disclosed that she is the harder worker at the gym, while David mainly focuses his efforts on deejaying . Chloe then asked Victoria about the Beckham children, which led to hilarious memories of the brood attending fashion shows—including one at which Harper, the youngest, sat next to Anna with a matching bob hairstyle . They then pivoted to Victoria’s legacy, from her Posh Spice and WAG days to the 32 Vogue covers she’s managed to squeeze into all of that. Despite living in the spotlight for a while now, she is humbled by her impact in the fashion and music spheres. She still feels pride when she sees people wearing her clothes—and is honored by the Royal Mail’s release of Spice Girls commemorative stamps.
