Sophie Hediger, a 26-year-old Swiss snowboarder who competed in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics , died in an avalanche on Monday. The accident occurred at the Arosa mountain resort in Switzerland , where Hediger and a friend were on expert-level runs. Her body was recovered about two hours later. Hediger, who competed in the women's snowboard cross and the mixed team snowboard cross at the Beijing Games, was considered a rising star in the sport.
She had achieved two World Cup podium finishes in the 2023-24 season. Swiss-Ski CEO Walter Reusser expressed his condolences, stating that Hediger's death has cast a dark shadow over the Christmas period
