One of N.J.'s all-time great athletes is coming back home.
Erin Donohue of Haddonfield Memorial High School raises her hand in victory as she crosses the finish line in the high school girls mile run at the 2001 Penn Relays in Philadelphia on 4/26/2001.Donohue LiVecchi, a legendary New Jersey runner, has been hired as the girls outdoor track and field head coach at Haddonfield, her alma mater.
Jason Russo, who has coached girls track and field at Haddonfield since 2007, will remain the head coach of the cross-country and indoor teams. Donohue LiVecchi was a distance phenom at Haddonfield, winning nine NJSIAA Meet of Champions gold medals. She was also a 2008 Olympic qualifier. Donohue LiVecchi held the state record in the mile when she graduated. She ran a 4:42.96 at the 2001 Adidas Outdoor Championships. The 4:42.96 converts to a 4:41.32 race in the 1,600 and was one of her three national championships in the mile. Donohue LiVecchi won six M of Cs titles outdoors, two in cross-country, and one indoors. She also showed off her versatility in the javelin with a silver medal at the M of Cs in 2001 - her final high school campaign. She won 18 outdoor group championships across her distance events and in the javelin. In cross-country, Donohue LiVecchi is one of the state’s three four-time M of Cs gold medalists. She’s an NJSIAA and Haddonfield Hall of Famer and a Penn Relays Wall of Famer. Donohue LiVecchi ran at the University of North Carolina. She also threw javelin in college. Donohue LiVecchi was a seven-time All American. In her high school years, Donohue was also a 1,000-point scorer for Haddonfield‘s basketball team.
