The $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Law signed in 2021 provides less than 1% of that funding -- $10 billion -- to 'improve[s] the safety, efficiency, and reliability of intercity passenger and freight rail.'

The 2021 $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill included $102 billion in rail funding, of which $66 billion is advanced appropriations and the remaining $36 billion is fully authorized funds, with the majority of funds aimed at improving passenger rail.Under the law, Amtrak received $41 billion in funds, divided between $22 billion in advanced appropriations and $19 billion in fully authorized funds.
