As Ohio State continues to search for ways to successfully run the ball, its backup quarterback may provide the way to efficiently do so in the red zone.

Kyle McCord had taken the Buckeyes down into the redzone for a second-straight drive when n a third-and-one he was replaced by Devin Brown. The next three plays went quarterback keep for a first down, a Chip Trayanum run for three yards then Brown taking it into the end zone for his first rushing touchdowns extending the lead to 14-0.

It’s a package that OSU has been working on going back to the offseason, patiently waiting for the right moment to bring it out. A road Big Ten game in October provided such opportunity thanks to the conditions in some ways being a lighter version than the last time it played a team from the “We’ll keep looking at it,” Day said. “Keep building this package because we do feel like it gives us a little bit of a different change up.”Ohio State isn’t the first team to have a red zone package for a red zone package and it’s not even the first time it’s done so.

“He got some good time today and I thought he did a really good job with it,” McCord said. He was a threat with his feet and made a sweet pass at the end. That’s the type of player he is. He’s a complete quarterback.”
