A provision in the Ohio House's 2024-25 budget proposal would require the state to study moving the state fairgrounds outside Columbus.

to conduct a study to determine whether to relocate the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair while redeveloping the existing site of the fairgrounds and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy.

The value of the existing site and how selling, leasing and renting all or part of the site could help fund the development of an alternative site in Franklin or surrounding counties The Ohio Expo Center & State Fair is located just north of Downtown, on 17th Avenue, off Interstate 71. Assistant General Manager Alicia Shoults said Wednesday in an email to The Dispatch that the organization already researched the ideal location as part of its Expo 2050 Master Plan, which it completed in December.

Rep. Mary Lightbody, D-Westerville, also pointed out that the budget has more than $190 million for improvements to the current fairgrounds.
