The bill will be sponsored by Sen. Jerry Cirino of Kirtland. He was expected to unveil the bill on Wednesday.

David Petkiewicz, cleveland.comCOLUMBUS, Ohio - A bill aimed at tamping down perceived liberal bias at Ohio colleges that failed last legislative session is back and the newest version contains more requirements for schools.
“As chair, I am committed to ensuring that our offer the highest-caliber education, where students are able to reach their full potential, where research and critical thinking gets promoted, where free speech is encouraged, where innovation is nurtured and performance is rewarded to the best,” she said. “We must be a meritocracy. We want Ohio students to be educated, not indoctrinated.”
On Wednesday, however, Cirino was joined at a press conference by state Rep. Tom Young, a Dayton-area Republican who chairs the House Higher Education Committee, signaling support for the legislation. Cirino also has -Diversity, equity and inclusion training: DEI training was also banned in the original version of last session’s bill, but Cirino subsequently altered the bill to allow some DEI trainings to occur when they were necessary for a researcher to receive a grant. This time around, Cirino said that since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down race and ethnicity-based admission preferences, he feels confident that DEI is on its way out.
