In New Jersey, bike-riding kids are hoping to get pulled over and ticketed by a police officer.

Monday, June 30, 2025 9:19PMIn one New Jersey community, bike-riding kids are hoping to get pulled over and ticketed by a police officer. The tickets entitles helmet-wearing kids to a free slice of pizza and a drink at two local restaurants: Calabria or Vinny's.

The treat is a reward for following the rules of the road and putting their helmets on whenever they go out for a bike ride. This is the third year for this safety program, designed to spread the word that wearing a bicycle helmet is the best and way to ride. Earlier this month, a cyclist who was not wearing a helmet died after losing control of his bike in Central Park. There have been many accidents involving cyclists who did not wear a helmet. Some are tragic, others lead to long-term injuries.Cranford even hosts a fall rodeo to talk about all-around safety on the road for bikers and motorists. One of the pizza shops giving away the slices in town happens to be right next door to a cycle shop where helmets are on sale.----------
