I-480 westbound, between Tiedeman Road and Grayton Road, sees backups during rush hour between 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., with the average speed through the area documented at 26 mph.
The transportation department hopes to reconfigure I-480 westbound and the ramps to make merging easier by increasing the available merging space.
The new design of these interchanges includes three lanes under Ohio 237 and a longer entrance lane from Interstate 71 north to I-480 west. I-71 southbound to Grayton Road will have two dedicated lanes, one for exiting and another for merging onto I-480 westbound. After reviewing data, ODOT said the area near the airport was “identified as an operationally sensitive corridor.”
“These improvements will help ODOT’s mission to provide the easy movement of people and goods from place to place,” a spokesperson said. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
