One person was fatally shot and another was injured in separate shootings Sunday near the city’s Lake Merritt and in a west Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to calls reporting a possible shooting in the 500 block of Bellevue Avenue near the lake.
Soon after, officers learned a person suffering from a gunshot wound managed to get a ride to a hospital for treatment. That victim was later listed in stable condition, police said. Despite emergency life-saving care provided by officers, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The killing is the 26th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year, following a. The CHP has investigated one homicide on city freeways. Last year at this time Oakland police had investigated 30 homicides in the city.
