New York City Police Department released footage showing the faces of six teenagers involved in a reckless joyride on an empty subway train in Brooklyn. The video, captured on Saturday night, shows the teenagers exiting the R train at 36th Street in Sunset Park.
New NYPD footage has revealed for the first time the faces of the teenagers involved in a reckless subway train joyride. Released Wednesday night, the clear footage shows a group of six young suspects exiting an R train at 36th Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn , around 10:20 pm on Saturday. Most are seen carrying backpacks, and one appears to have a professional camera slung around his neck.
Previous NYPD footage, released earlier, showed the teens with their hoods pulled up, obscuring their identities within a darkened train car. The incident began at 36th Street, not at the Forest Hills-71 Avenue station in Queens as initially reported by police. The suspects initially attempted to cover the security camera lenses with black marker to conceal their actions. Sources indicate that the teenagers reached speeds of approximately 30 mph during their unauthorized ride, which involved operating the train on active lines, although the exact extent of this is unclear. This is not the first time these teenagers have been accused of such reckless behavior. In September, two of the suspects were apprehended for attempting a similar joyride on a subway train at the Briarwood station in Queens. Police reported at the time that these individuals boarded the train and operated it for a short distance before crashing. The NYPD is actively seeking information regarding the latest incident and urges anyone with relevant knowledge to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers.
