NYC college students plan citywide walkouts to protest Israel-Hamas war
Pro-Palestinian groups at CUNY, Columbia University, NYU and several other New York City colleges plan to walk out in protest of the Israel-Hamas war Wednesday as tensions over the conflict between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel groups continue to mount in New York City.
The protests’ anticipated start times are staggered between 11 a.m. and late Wednesday afternoon. A mix of organized student groups and individuals — from pro-Palestinian organizations to students who describe themselves as anti-Zionist Jews — will be taking part.A spokesperson for Columbia declined to comment. Vince DiMiceli, a spokesperson for Hunter College, said school officials were “aware of the event planned for today, and are working to ensure the safety of all involved.
“Students have the right to peacefully leave a class and any absence will be treated in accordance with a professor’s standing class participation or attendance policy,” Bronski said in a statement. “Baruch College does not sanction student walkouts and reiterates that students or anyone from Baruch who chooses to organize or attend these events are in no way speaking for or representing Baruch College.
