Nvidia introduces DLSS 4, a transformative upgrade that boasts groundbreaking neural rendering capabilities, Multi Frame Generation for up to 8X frame rate boosts, and transformer AI models for enhanced visuals.

Nvidia is making a significant announcement today with a major upgrade to its Deep Learning Super Sampling ( DLSS ) technology. DLSS 4 introduces groundbreaking neural rendering capabilities that, when paired with the new RTX 50 Series GPUs, enable Multi Frame Generation .

This innovative feature can generate 'up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame, working in tandem with the complete suite of DLSS technologies to potentially multiply frame rates by up to 8X over traditional brute-force rendering.' According to Nvidia, this advancement is substantial enough to make 4K 240fps, fully ray-traced gaming a reality. Adding to the excitement, an upgrade beneficial to all GeForce RTX GPUs will see DLSS games employing Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, and DLAA updated to new transformer AI models. These models leverage the same technology found in AI tools like ChatGPT, marking a pioneering move for the graphics industry. Nvidia asserts that its new frame generation model is 40 percent faster and consumes 30 percent less VRAM compared to its predecessor. By replacing the former Convolutional Neural Networks with its innovative transformer model, generated pixels are expected to exhibit less ghosting, enhanced detail, and improved stability within a scene, ultimately resulting in a clearer overall picture. On launch day, Nvidia promises 75 games and applications will support Multi Frame Generation, with titles like Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Star Wars Outlaws ready to utilize it upon the release of RTX 50 Series GPUs at the end of January. Furthermore, 'over 50 games' will incorporate the new transformer-based DLSS features compatible with all GeForce RTX hardware. While we eagerly anticipate observing the impact of the new frame generation technology on latency, Nvidia has also unveiled Reflex 2 with Frame Warp technology, which claims to reduce latency by up to 75 percent. Frame Warp, operating in conjunction with the CPU, samples the new camera position based on the latest mouse or controller input and warps the rendered frame to this updated position just before it is displayed on the screen, ensuring the freshest mouse input is reflected. Nvidia's data indicates Reflex 2 can shrink latency from 27ms with Reflex 1 to a mere 14ms in testing with The Finals. The company states that this technology will be 'coming soon' to both The Finals and Valorant for users with 50 Series GPUs initially, before becoming available on other RTX hardware. For games and applications lacking immediate updates but possessing DLSS support, the updated drivers and Nvidia app offer new DLSS Override switches. These switches empower users to force Multi Frame Generation on new GPUs even when frame generation is already enabled within the game. They can also leverage the latest models when DLSS is activated in the game and utilize updated Super Resolution rendering when that feature is turned on
