Northern Territory leader Natasha Fyles is heading abroad at a time when Australia is shifting its defence focus to the north.

"During the trip, the Chief Minister will meet with key US federal government decision-makers to advance the territory's role in supporting US Defence training initiatives under the Australian-United States Alliance in the Northern Territory," a government spokesperson said. "It's also an opportunity to develop US Defence's planned infrastructure investments in the Northern Territory, creating local jobs.
