Nostalgic Redwood Drive-in may come down in favor of additional housing

Developers are asking the West Valley City to rezone the popular Redwood Drive-In so they can build housing units on the land.

Edge Homes wants the property rezoned so they can build over 300 housing units, including townhomes, condos and some single-family lots on the drive-in located at 3688 South Redwood Road.

Others said they’d been selling their wares at the swap meet for 30 years, in good weather and bad. It has become so popular, it had spread out of the fenced-in part of the property and into the parking lot. The landowners are DeAnza Land and Leisure Corporation out of Los Angeles. They tried to sell the drive-in in 2021, but a developer backed out of the deal.Do you already have a contract or any kind of agreement about working on that property?They did not give an official response, but they showed their proposal for the drive-in. The property could have 308 new housing units, including 40 condos, 250 townhomes and 18 single-family lots.
