It’s coming up to 10 years since the closure of the bar
Do you remember the good old days when going out for a pint would cost you less than a fiver in Belfast?
It got us thinking about an old student haunt in South Belfast that some of us would frequent during our increasingly distant student days. It’s coming up to 10 years since the closure of The Globe Bar on University Road, around the corner from the Lanyon building at Queen’s.And while it may be remembered for a host of things, the one thing that we remembered most was that you could get a burger AND a pint for a fiver.
It may not have been the best burger in the world, and it may not have been the best pint in the world, but together they made a fantastic combo for groups of hungry and thirsty students after a long day of pretending to go to class. As far as price goes, it is pretty standard but there is usually some drinks promos on or something like a pint and a burger for around a fiver,” one punter Robbie says from a 2010 review. The Globe may also have been slightly famous for the odd student night where some may have ‘slipped under the radar’ as this other poster says.
